Introduction: A little about me.

Hola my name is Brandy Asberry. I am from Tulsa, Oklahoma, but was originally born in Fayettville, North Carolina. I moved to Oklahoma because I was an Army brat, and my dad was stationed back in Tulsa to be closer to family. I graduated high school in 2009, and also got my Associate in Psychology in 2012. Now I am a Psychology Pre-Nursing major with a minor in Sociology. I plan to graduate in Fall 2015 with hopes of starting nursing school the Summer of 2016. *crosses fingers* Currently, I am taking Human Anatomy, Advanced Personality, and two Women's and Gender Studies classes.

In my spare time, I love to play tennis. I was on the varsity team in high school and played singles and doubles. I don't really play anymore because I never have the time between work and school.   Also, I love other sports! My favorite sports are football and basketball (Thunder UP!). Furthermore, love to cook and bake. I love making simple everyday dishes more healthy, like instead of having spaghetti and meatballs, I will make zucchini noodles (zoodles) and meatballs. My favorite things to bake are cookies and breads.

Sometimes I spend my time watching Netflix and Hulu. Some of my favorite tv shows are superhero shows like Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I also like a lot of crime scene and drama shows like Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, CSI, and a lot more! I also love to listen to music. Beyonce is one of my favorite singers, but I listen to a lot of different genres of music like gospel, country, indie rock, pop, rhythm and blues, and some hip hop/rap. Finally, I often read in my spare time whenever I can. I don't really have any favorite books. I just love to read anything that interests me.

  1. Oh my gosh, I am in love with Beyonce! She is so amazing and spunky. Every time I listen to flawless in my car on full blast I feel like I am invincible. Also, I know people who have taken anatomy and you actually cut up cadavers. You guys are brave souls because I would just faint at the first sight of their organs, lol! You remind me of my roommate because she came to Oklahoma because she is an army brat as well.

  2. Nursing sounds like such a great career, Brandy! One of my friends was a psychiatric nurse in the prison system for years (intense!), but even after she retired she went back to the prison and volunteered in their music and art program... I figure that has to be a good sign, when people who retire stay attached to their old workplaces. And the art and music therapy activities they did were so cool. Maybe you will get a chance to learn about music therapy in your future training; I know that medications have their place and all, but using art and music as therapy sure sounds good to me! Meanwhile, I hope you will enjoy the class, finding things to read that interest you. For me, the whole world of folklore and mythology is interesting... so this class is always fun for me! :-)

  3. I am from Tulsa too...that was where I was born and raised until I was 21. I miss my hometown sometimes, but also love living in Moore too. Some of my favorite shows are drama shows too. I especially love The Flash, Constantine, The Walking Dead and Law & Order: SVU. I tried to play tennis with my brother when I was younger, but I just never really enjoyed it as much as he did. I do love to bake & cook as well. My daughter, Mary, take after me in that respect. Even though I like to cook, my husband is the main cook in our house. I love all kinds of music too. We like a lot of the same things actually. It seems the more I comment on our classmates blogs, the more I realize I have lots in common with most everyone in the class. I wish you the best of luck in your Nursing career. I do not like needles, so I could never go into that field. You are much braver than I am!

  4. Hey, Brandy! It’s great to be in class with you. That’s great you want to be a nurse – that’s what I want to do as well and my cousin is a NICU nurse right now and absolutely loves it! I also played tennis in high school and don’t do it as much now – this weather doesn’t help though  I’ll have to watch some of the TV shows you suggested – I’ve seen Gotham and Grey’s Anatomy, but I haven’t seen the others.

  5. You're an extremely well-rounded person, Brandy! You seem to be able to do it all! I have a friend who is an Army brat from Tulsa as well, that's crazy! And your major of Psychology and Pre-Nursing seems like a great combination. Good luck getting into nursing school next summer! I know that's easier said than done, but you seem like just the kind of person perfect for it!

  6. Hey Brandy!

Great to hear that you are pre-nursing. I have respect for everyone who is caring enough to go into the medical profession. I know it must be difficult sometimes, but you are definitely going to change lives in the future. I also play tennis. I need to try and play more often. It's such great exercise. I also enjoy watching Netflix. I haven't watched any of the shows you mentioned, but maybe I'll give them a try. Good luck this semester!

  7. Hey Brandy, nice to "meet" you! I am also from Tulsa, so I know the place well. I think it's so interesting that you chose psychology and sociology to focus on--I think both of those are interesting subjects, so I'm sure your classes are great. One of my minors is psychology, and I've loved all the courses I've taken for it. Oh I love to cook and bake! I've been wanting to make zucchini noodles, but I wasn't sure how they would taste? Are they really good? I think making things healthy is always great, but I'm a health nut. Netflix is always great! Hope you're having a great semester!

  8. I LOVE SUPERHERO SHOWS!!!! I am currently watching S.H.I.E.L.D and Agent Carter! They are so good.
Anatomy is so fun but it takes up so much time! I took it last semester. Dr. G is crayyy isn't she? I am a little jealous that your lecture is at 9:30 now, mine was at 8:30!
Good luck with the rest of your semester and I hope anatomy doesn't kill you lol

  9. Hey Brandy!
I never had to experience it, but grandpa was in the Army and had to move my dad all over the place when he was young too. That's cool though that you ended up being close to family! I'm a huge fan of tennis too, although I've never actually been "good" at it haha. I just always thought it was a fun sport to play in the spring and summer during breaks from school. We like a lot of the same TV shows because I have to admit that Arrow is something of a guilty pleasure show for me. I think it's probably not technically a good show from a lot of perspectives but man do I enjoy it.

  10. Hi Brandy, I'm Amber. I think it is really awesome that you are doing both psychology and nursing! I am only doing psychology and that is incredibly difficult, but also really enjoyable. Wow, you are good at sports and you can cook?? That is amazing! I cannot do either of those things lol. I absolutely love Grey's Anatomy, in fact I just finished watching the most recent episode on Hulu! Good luck with everything.

  11. Congratulations on choosing nursing school! I'm headed off to dental school this summer, so I feel a weird connection with other people going into the health field. However, I haven't lived a very healthy lifestyle while in college, so I'm trying to change that. I ran a 5K today, for example! I'll have to try zoodles. A friend of mine is in love with tennis. He plays in a city-wide league. I might have to try that too. Good luck with nursing school!

  12. Hi Brandy,

Congrats on wanting to do nursing. It is certainly a hard major to get through. I loved taking Human Anatomy. While it was certainly one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, it was definitely a very interesting class. I certainly wish you the best of luck with all of your classes and graduating on time. I know that can be a very stressful process to get through.

  13. Hey Brandy! It seems like you've got everything figured out! I hope you make it in to nursing school! I have a friend who just finished the program. It's a great program for sure, and very intense. Oh my goodness. I love zucchini and spaghetti and meat balls. I'll have to attempt zoodles in the near future! That sounds delicious.
Good luck on the rest of your semester!

  14. Hi Brandy! Thanks for the cool intro. You sound like you have your hands full, but you have a great future ahead of you! Zucchini noodles?? That sounds awesome and so creative. I try to eat healthy, but it always takes longer to cook and I always seem to not want to use the extra time, but I admire you for doing that. So cool! Thanks for sharing!

  15. Hey, Brandy! I enjoyed reading your Introduction! It was nice to read about a fellow psychology major! I think it's awesome that you paired that with pre-nursing. I wish you the best of luck in your future studies! I also love tennis! Unfortunately, like you, I never have time to play. My roommate and I used to go all the time in the middle of the night when we lived in the dorms. Some of my favorite college memories involve playing tennis! Hope you have a great end of the semester!
